Introducing: The Locavore Guide

A directory for IRL shopping in NYC

Dear subscribers,

The day has come! Phew! I’ve launched my new business!

It’s called The Locavore Guide and it’s an online directory for small biz retail in NYC! I’ve spent the better part of the past year walking the city and gathering information about as many indie retailers as I could lay eyes on and the result is:

110 neighborhoods covered in the their entirety

10,287 shops catalogued

1,000+ miles walked.

My mission is to make it easier for New Yorkers to locate great local shops to do their everyday shopping at, instead of defaulting to shopping online. In a world of algorithms and convenience, I want to reinforce the benefits of shopping as an activity, and just not a chore — a way of engaging with your community and learning from experts as a way of acquiring objects.

How it works:

• The directory is ad-free and free for all, forever!

• For additional features and access to fun editorial content, become a supporting member for $5/month or $50/year. This is how we’re keeping the lights on and employing folks to keep the database updated :)

We’re still working through some tech issues (if you’re an Android user, beware! Your mobile version will be glitch-y!) and have so many things we want to add in the future, but for now, go explore! There’s so much to discover.
