Edition 58: Kids Stationery and a Clothing Rack
The penultimate post! Last call for submissions!
Greetings, friends! And welcome to Caroline Finds It: my weekly newsletter where I reply to submissions from YOU for objects and products you need recommendations for.
*CALLING ALL NEW YORKERS! As I’m folding this newsletter into my new biz, I need submissions for things YOU need in NYC! I will go out IRL and find it for you! Find the submission form here.*
Can you believe that next week will be my last CFI post here on Substack? If you want to sneak in a last minute request, please follow the link at the bottom. For today, we’re talking about clothing racks, kids stationery and my new favorite sneakers.
Lindsay in Chicago is going for Auntie gold: “My 7-year-old niece love stationery and paper products and has a pen pal — any suggestions for good stationery lines for kids? Also, looking for recs for sticker books or storage for adults and kids.”
Dear Lindsay,
In Asia you can find cute little letter sets everywhere that include enough paper for envelopes for 3-5 letters, and little stickers to seal them with. They’re always cheap, compact and easily gift-able. New Yorkers — Good Field Trading in Chinatown has piles of dead stock sets from the 80s and 90s that are so fun to sort through. For you, Lindsay, have a few online sources to share.
MochiThings.com is a great source for cute Asian stationery, at prices close to what you’d actually pay in Asia. Kawaii Pen Shop also stocks lots of cute sets for around $12 for supplies for 10 letters, like this cute Totoro one:
One of my very favorite types of stationery is folding letters! Paper Tigre’s Le Pli Postal is great for larger letters, but I think she’s like Poketo’s Origami Letter Set ($12) even more:
Mr. Boddington’s Studio has a few very specific sets for sale, like this Letters from Camp boxed set ($25):
And as for sticker books - these are impossible, especially ones that are cool for grown-ups, so I’ll defer to my client Amy, who is opening a sticker shop in Cincinnati! Go give her a follow! I’m sure she’ll have lots of great ideas and special products to share as soon as she’s up and running!
QUICK ANSWER
Gregory in Albany, CA: “I think that what I am looking for is called a clothes (clothing?) rack. I need something that is about 6’ high, with two 4’ horizontal bars — one that is about 3’ off the floor, the other 6’ high. I have various coats, hoodies, sweaters, and jackets that I want to hang on it. Some of them are kind of heavy, so I would need something that is really sturdy.”
A clothing rack is precisely what you’re after! When it comes to clothing racks, it’s the heavy collapsible rolling racks from my fashion biz days that first come to mind. Those are great, but not quite as coat-friendly as what you’re describing. Though double rail racks are not particularly common, this one fits the bill:
From Pamo. for $100, this rack is has an adjustable second rail and is made of steel tubes with cast iron fittings, ensuring that it’ll be sturdy enough for the weight of your coats. I love how fuss-free the design is, and the ability to move the rail around to accommodate the length of your pieces.
FAVORITE PRODUCT OF THE WEEK
I was recently on the hunt to find an independently owned, small biz sneaker company to buy a new pair from, which was a much taller order than I imagined it’d be! Certainly it’s because of how complicated and expensive it is to put sneakers into production, but I eventually landed on just what I was looking for. Clearweather is independently owned and operated, and makes sneakers in inspired styles and impeccable quality and comfort. I love my orange Pathfinders, and appreciate that they are non-gendered and clearly labeled with the correct size for both Men’s and Women’s conventional sizing. Bonus points for no loud branding!
